From an email sent by a staff member at the Crane Library at UBC:
One of the clients you have been narrating for throughout the summer wanted to convey a message to the volunteers. I wrote it down as she spoke, so here goes:
“I am so grateful to the volunteers. It really means so much to me to have these books read. I cried getting to listen to this text* and I will play it until the day I die.”
The client, who is no longer sighted, said it was a great treasure to have access to books she had read in the past.
note: both Crane and the client kindly gave their permission for the text above to appear in this post
Narrating I Am That at Crane was a wonderful opportunity shared with other volunteers. I had been meaning to take a look at this book for ages. It is perfect. I had no idea. Reading it makes you feel that the search for the right words is over. The rest is beyond words.
